ST ANDREW'S ANNUAL MEETING Sunday, 21 March

There are five vacancies for three years on the PCC.
Nomination forms at back of church. They need a proposer and seconder and must be signed by the person nominated.

Nominations are also invited for two churchwardens. Please return the completed forms to the Parish Office.

Reports and accounts should be available in church from 7 March.

Door to Door

You would expect to find this phrase included in an advert in Yellow Pages rather than heading an article. Its aim is to catch your attention enough to encourage you to make a note in your diary or on your calendar to remind you to join us for our Housegroup service to be held at 4.pm. on Sunday April 25th.

That's why we have chosen the above heading! A path from your door will be one that we hope will bring you to join us for an ‘Open Door’ get together.
'Open Door' is the logo which stands for all we hope to achieve within the context of the Home groups network.

Flyers will be sent out nearer the date as reminders and I would like to say that every effort is being made to ensure that we will be presenting you with something a little different, but which reflects what a Housegroup should be: a time of welcome, of sharing, listening, learning and enjoying many laughs together, as good friends do! Then of course, there is the all important cup of tea or coffee without which no Housgroup is complete! Rest assured this will not be forgotten!!   All in all, our aim is to combine all these elements in a really relaxed atmosphere.

If you do not already belong to a Housegroup and are wondering what you might be missing, come along and see for yourself.   If you do not think it is really your scene---come along anyway, a warm welcome awaits you. It’s very much an ‘open’ invitation. One final point. If getting there may be a problem, like Yellow Pages, we too will be very happy to arrange ‘Door-to-Door Service’.

Mandy Hanlon, Housegroups’ Co-ordinator.

Quiz Night

Quiz night

Teams of 6 cost £30, and there will be a licensed bar and nibbles.

Out of Focus

Out of Focus

St Andrew’s Players will present 'Out Of Focus' which is a witty comedy by Peter Gordon about the chaos that ensues when the insecure vicar’s wife is forced to take over the booking of the church hall and manages to promise it to several groups on the same night (including herself). There is considerable friction between the groups until they take pity on her helplessness and agree to take part in her own project – a pantomime.

The characters are real people and we have all met them, though different characteristics are drawn from different people.

Tickets are £7.00 each for all performances and can be obtained from Clive or Julie Burgess

Magazine

From January 2010 the monthly magazine for Men "Sorted" is available in over 1500 independent newsagents up and down the UK at £3 a copy.

It is aimed at both Christian and non-Christian men and is produced by Steve Legg, a Christian living in Worthing.

Wednesday Morning 10am Worship.....

Because it is important to offer prayer and praise we would like to keep this service going.

Holy Communion

We are grateful to Canon Alan Spray who has agreed to celebrate on the first Wednesday of the month. Rev Peter Markby celebrates when he is available.

Morning Prayer

When a priest is not available, we have a simple form of morning prayer. This alternates between Common Worship Morning Prayer and a "Celtic" style Service which has its origins in Iona. There are copies of the book, A Wee Worship Book, in the chapel.

The structure of the "Celtic" service is similar to Common Worship and is suited to lay involvement. The language is modern and expresses feelings close to those arising in our daily lives. For instance, a passage from prayers affirming our faith is:

"Because you have promised to hear us, and are able to change us, and are willing to make our hearts your home,
we ask you to confront, control, forgive and encourage us, as you know best."

feast@4

We all enjoy a nice cup of tea, and in many homes round about 4.p.m. the kettle will be boiling as we reach for the teabags. Even so, have you ever thought it might taste just as good, perhaps even more enjoyable, when you have just spent such an interesting hour with so many things to observe and join in that you simply didn’t notice the time! That’s what we aim to achieve with feast@4 on the first Sunday of each month at St Andrew’s.

Whoever you may be, whatever age you are and wherever you live, as a church member, you are a vital part of a special family. That is why welcoming the newest family member at a Baptism calls for a special round of applause and is a lovely part of the service. A party often follows the baptism, and since everyone enjoys a party, feast@4 is designed to be a very special fun time with an underlying Christian theme.

Many families comment on the time being very suitable for them to come along, often marking their kitchen calendars in order not to miss out.

The children really get involved in action choruses led by our youth band, there is a short film or some drama, action games and a variety of handicrafts — always a great rush to get involved in these! Tossing coloured balls in the air as we offer up different prayers to God is also a favourite occupation. It is good to see everyone enjoying themselves, parents and grandparents as well as children, for they are all part of our church, just like those attending other services, and are always very ready to chat over the teacups at refreshment time. Whilst some regular worshippers do join us, it would be so encouraging if more would be prepared to come along and help newcomers feel welcome at what truly is a real church family event. Do come and give us the pleasure of your company. We hope you’ll be glad you did!

Going into Hospital?

The Chaplaincy Team at Brighton & Sussex University Hospitals has prepared the following practical advice for getting spiritual support during your stay in hospital.

Before leaving for hospital:

  • Let your priest or someone in your church know you are going in. Unless you yourself let them know, they may not find out.

When you get to hospital:

  • Let the Chaplaincy Team know that you would like to be visited. The ward staff will pass on this information for you

  • Chaplains are available for spiritual support and to help you think through the implications of your illness or treatment

  • It may be possible for you to attend the chapel service on Sunday. The ward staff will help arrange this.

  • If not, then someone from the Chaplaincy Team can visit you to bring communion or to say a prayer.

  • Your own priest can visit. It is worth checking the most convenient times.
